There has been growing emphasis on proper classification of employees. Learn how job descriptions, timely performance appraisals, and communication can help you avoid paying unplanned overtime and audits from the government. While the government provides significant guidance on properly classifying employees there are still a lot of gray areas.

We will review the nuisances regarding: Exempt versus non-exempt, Department of Labor’s white-collar exemptions, the importance of detailed and current job descriptions, and identifying the essential job functions.

Rachel Bossard chairs the Firm’s Labor and Employment law practice group. She represents employers in all aspects of the law including client counseling, training, litigation and benefits. Steven A. Baskerville

Steven has been a member of the law enforcement community for the last twenty-five years in municipal and federal positions. He is currently a Special Agent / Assistant to the Special Agent in Charge with the United States Secret Service, assigned to the National Computer Forensics Institute (NCFI) Lab located on the campus of the University of Tulsa, Tulsa, OK. Previously, he was assigned to the Technical Security Division in Washington, DC, and to the Waco Resident Office. His investigative duties have included the investigation of state and federal crimes involving the use of electronic devices, access device fraud, bank fraud, mail fraud, wire fraud, identity theft, and counterfeiting.

Doug Farrell

Doug’s 22-year career started with the Secret Service in 2000 at the Chicago Field Office and later in the Milwaukee Resident Office.  During that period, Doug handled criminal investigations and supported protective operations.  In 2008, he was transferred to Washington, DC where he was assigned to numerous divisions over a ten-year period, serving on the Presidential Protective Division for just over 5 years.  Doug was promoted to the Resident Agent in Charge of the Tulsa Resident Office in 2018 where he is responsible for overseeing Secret Service operations for the Northern and Eastern Districts of Oklahoma.
